CHINO VALLEY — It’s been quite a difficult 2018 season for Chino Valley’s volleyball team, but the Cougars have managed to continue competing through the rough patches.
On Tuesday, Oct. 9, Chino Valley’s record dropped to 2-11 overall in power-point matches and 2-3 in the 3A West region after a narrow 3-2 setback to Wickenburg at the Cougars’ main gym.
The Wranglers improved their record to 4-9 overall in power-point matches and 2-5 in the West region.
Chino Valley grabbed a 2-0 lead in the match, winning the first two games, 25-11 and 26-24. However, Wickenburg rallied back to win the final three sets, 25-17, 25-15 and 18-16, in a heartbreaker for the Cougars.
For Chino Valley, Emma Brambila quarterbacked the attack, compiling 10 service aces and 26 assists.
Katryna Davis registered seven kills, 14 digs and five service aces. McKenna Harris also tallied seven kills to go along with 13 digs. Sophia Lopez finished with nine kills and 10 digs.
Chino Valley travels to River Valley (5-9 overall, 3-4 region) for another West region match on Thursday, Oct. 11. First serve is at 6 p.m. in Mohave Valley.
The Cougars edged the Dust Devils, 3-2, in their first region clash on Sept. 25 in Chino Valley.
Wickenburg visits 3A No. 7-ranked Arizona College Prep (8-2) for a non-region match at 6 p.m. today, Oct. 10, in Chandler.
