Obituary: Jim Messerschmitt

Jim Messerschmitt passed away Nov. 9, 2018.

Jim was raised in Elizabeth, Colorado. He moved to Prescott, Arizona, in 1997 after living in numerous locations throughout the United States.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet, and he recently moved back to Dallas to be closer to his family.

Jim’s life was an unlikely journey from the livestock show ring, to business meetings with two Presidents in the White House, to President of a Strategic Business Unit for Electronic Data Systems where he had offices in 26 countries. Along the way there was a clumsy courtship with his only love, gin games with the titans of American industry, an inspiring walk in Christian faith, 40 marathons, and near-death experiences.

Jim was active in numerous community organizations. Jim and his therapy dog, Luna, would visit Children’s Hospital in Dallas and many other medical facilities. Jim is survived by Kim and Kirby Johnson, Kurt and Emily Messerschmitt, Kyle and Kim Messerschmitt, eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A celebration of his full life will be on Nov. 19, at 2 p.m., with a reception following. The location of the service is: Ridgewood Park United Methodist Church, 6445 E. Lovers Ln, Dallas, Texas, 75214.

Before he passed away, Jim said, “I praise God for the experiences I have had and I look forward to joining Janet and being with Jesus.”

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation may be made the Ridgewood Park United Methodist Church Endowment Fund or to a charity of your choice.
