In anticipation of Veterans Day, City of Prescott officials, Yavapai County supervisors and Arizona Rangers participated in a flag ceremony that took place on the steps of the Yavapai County Courthouse Thursday morning, Nov. 8.
The ceremony was hosted by Legacy of Valor, an organization committed to sharing the stories of Americans who have done their part to ensure the country’s heritage of strength and freedom.
The flag featured in the ceremony was the first to be flown on the Battleship USS Missouri (“Mighty Mo”) when President Ronald Reagan re-commissioned the battleship on March 10, 1986. Missouri was the last battleship commissioned by the United States and is best remembered as the site of the surrender of the Empire of Japan, which ended World War II.
The Veterans Day Parade is at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, in downtown Prescott.
