Peter Jok hits five 3-pointers, scores career-high 25 points
DES MOINES, Iowa — De’Anthony Melton recorded the first triple-double of his career, Peter Jok scored a career-high 25 points on five 3-pointers and the Northern Arizona Suns outscored Iowa 30-19 in the final period for a 106-95 win Tuesday night.
Melton, who is the second player in team history to record a triple-double, scored 19 points on 8 of 21 shooting from the field, grabbed 10 rebounds and dished 13 assists in 38 minutes against a Wolves club that shot just 38.8 percent from the floor.
Josh Gray had the previous three triple-doubles, two of which came a season ago.
It is the first win of the season for the Suns (1-1), which hit just 11 3-pointers as a team, but were 11 of 13 from the free-throw line and outrebounded the Wolves 56-34.
The Suns outscored the Wolves (0-3) 21-4 in fast break points and led by as many as 14 points in the fourth quarter to put Iowa away.
Other standouts for Northern Arizona included two-way player George King, who scored 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds, while forward Eric Stuteville had 14 points and six rebounds in 20 minutes off the bench.
For Iowa, Darius Johnson-Odom led all scorers with 28 points. Canyon Barry recorded a double-double with 21 points on 8 of 14 shooting from the field and 10 rebounds.
Northern Arizona heads to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to play the Skyforce tonight at 5:30 p.m. in the second of a three-game road trip.
Iowa travels west to play the Santa Cruz Warriors on Saturday, Nov. 10.
