Wayne Levern Barney (aka “Barney”) was born March 14, 1940, to Sylven and Florence Bell Dixon Barney, in St. Anthony, Idaho. He was the youngest of five children and the only boy in the family. Wayne moved to Prescott, Arizona, in 1956, to work for Air Lock Log Company. It was in Prescott that he met the love of his life, Lynette Despain. Wayne and Lynette married in 1958 on Wayne’s 18th birthday. They had five children, three boys and two girls. Early in their marriage, Wayne worked for Kelly Moving and Storage Company and then for various other trucking companies. Wayne established his own trucking company in 1983, Prescott Delivery Service.
Wayne was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many leadership positions, including Bishop and as a member of the High Council.
Wayne retired in 1987, which allowed him to do what he loved: spending time with his family and traveling.
Wayne and Lynette celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in March 2018, with a fabulous 50’s party with their family and friends. Wayne passed away peacefully from this life on Nov. 3, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Vonda Lott and Verla Park; son, Kim Barney; and great-granddaughter, Riley Millikan. Wayne is survived by his wife, Lynette; children: Arden (Capri) Barney, LuWana Jones, Terry (Kerry) Barney, and Angeleen (Shane) Stapley; 20 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Grace Hunter and Nina Christensen.
A funeral service to honor Wayne will be held Saturday, Nov. 10, 2018, at 10 a.m., at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1101 Sandretto Drive, Prescott, Arizona. A viewing and an opportunity greet the family will be held prior to the service at 9 a.m. Interment will follow the service at the Mountain View Cemetery located at 1051 Willow Creek Road, Prescott, Arizona.
