Eight Prescott area chess players competed in 56 chess games at Yavapai College on Saturday, May 5. Each game used special timers giving only five minutes for each player. This type of chess competition is known as blitz or speed chess.
Dr. Henry Ebarb, Prescott, was the top finisher with a 12-2 record which netted him $60. Ebarb is currently ranked the 72nd best U.S. Blitz chess player of those aged 65 and older. He will move up as he gained 47 rating points.
Tom Green, Prescott, won $40 for his second-place finish with 10 points. Green is currently ranked the 60th best U.S. Blitz chess player of those aged 65 and older. Green directed this U.S. Chess rated chess tournament.
Dan Tyler, Prescott, was the best Class C player. He scored 8 points and earned $25.
Randee Dermer, Prescott, won $25 as the top Class E player. He won four games.
