Howard M. Kravetz, M.D.

Howard M. Kravetz, M.D., F.C.C.P., died April 30, 2018, in Prescott, Arizona, at the age of 89. Born to Max and Dorothy Kravetz in NYC, he grew up in Jersey City, NJ.

As a child, Howard was taught the value of an honest work ethic and studious education. Howard earned an undergraduate degree from St. Peter’s College in 1949 and graduated from NYU College of Medicine in 1956. His medical residencies included Bellevue Hospital, the Brooklyn VAH, NIH at Bethesda (Infectious Diseases), and Massachusetts General Hospital (Allergy and Intensive Care), giving Howard the very best training during the “Golden Age of Medicine.”

As a young Boy Scout, Howard developed a lifelong fondness for the outdoors and what laid in the open spaces of the West. That quest, in part, was responsible for drawing Howard and his then young family to Phoenix in 1962, where he established a private pulmonary practice. The solo practice grew into Pulmonary Associates, a multi-physician practice. In 1983, Howard moved to Prescott, establishing Northern Arizona Chest Center. Howard was a respected and dedicated physician, always willing to share his knowledge and experience with others. Semi-retired in 1994, he taught First Aid and CPR with local Fire Departments. He ran a Triage/Treatment Center at Hurricane Katrina and then traveled the Western USA as the Physician for an AZ Wildfire Team and devoted time to an Incident Management Team.

Howard is survived by his wife of nearly 40 years, Allison Favour Kravetz. Other survivors include daughters Judith Ramos (Juan) of Boston, Massachusetts, and Beckie Kravetz (Alan Weisman) of Cummington, Massachusetts; and stepson, C. T. “Tom” Rigden (Elaine) of Prescott. He is also survived by his brother, Robert E. Kravetz, M.D. (Nancy) and three nephews of Phoenix. Howard’s love of people, medicine and the outdoors led to many leadership positions, professional and voluntary. Howard was an expert certified canoe paddler, founder of the Prescott Paddle Club and a longtime supporter of Boy Scouts. Pursuant to Howard’s instruction, no services will be held. This family and his friends will remember Howard for his keen mind, compassion, gentle humor and abiding concern for all people. In his memory, you are asked to extend a kind word, smile or good deed to others.

“We all have the freedom to choose our particular pathway. Wherever you are or whatever you do, choose and travel your path with fortitude, optimism and a sense of humor.”
