Interim Superintendent of the Pioneer’ Home Dale Sams said recent improvements have been made at the Pioneers’ Home Cemetery, 1300 Iron Springs Road.
The entrance to the cemetery has been widened, and a connection to the city water supply will provide a drinking fountain and a hose spigot to water plants on the property. Bill Pierce, digger and groundskeeper, will be planting flowers near the entrance to “pretty up” the place, Sams added.
The cemetery has three sections: the Simmons Cemetery Section, established on the hilltop in the 1800s; the “new section,” consisting of the most recent surveyed areas, lower on the property; and the “old section,” located on the north side of the property.
Interment rights are available, except in the old section. Call the Arizona Pioneers’ Home to determine plot availability, 928-445-2181.
