There’s some new bands along with some old standbys as the Prescott Downtown Partnership and City of Prescott present the first act in the Summer Concert Series Friday, June 1.
There’s jazz every Tuesday, Prescott Idol every Thursday, the Central Arizona Concert Band every third Thursday and live rock, blues or country music on select Fridays. An old favorite is also coming back thanks to a partnership with the Elks Theatre and Performing Arts Center, said Prescott Downtown Partnership Executive Director Kendall Jaspers.
“We have brought back Movie Nights,” Jaspers said. Movies are Wednesdays at 7 p.m. at the Elks Theatre, 117 E. Gurley St. The only potential cost is a donation, Jaspers said. “It doesn’t cost anything if you don’t want it to.”
There’s a few new jazz groups performing this year, said Summer Concert Series Coordinator Kathy August. One new performer, Toucan Eddy, is actually the first to perform at 6 p.m. Friday. Vacation Day is another new band this year, performing Friday, Aug. 3. Still there’s plenty of popular favorites, such as Five in the Wheel, performing Friday, Aug. 17, and Goodwin Street Gang, performing Tuesday, June 5 and Tuesday, Aug. 28.
Other performers in the series include Mint, Scandalous Hands, Rosemary Chavez & Jazz A’la Mode, Prescott Jazz Summit All Star Big Band, Larry Cantor, Desert Cats, Combo Deluxe, Northern Arizona Big Band, Jeff Weisel & the Cool Azul, Mike Vax Quintent, Scandalous Hands Jazz Trio & Friends, and The CheekTones. All concerts begin at 6 p.m. at the courthouse plaza.
The Prescott Idol finale will be in September at the Yavapai College Performing Arts Center. A date is not known at this time.
August said she’s thrilled and excited for this year’s Summer Concert Series.
“I’m looking forward to seeing everybody again this year,” she said. “Come to have some fun.”
