Jill Caryn Carter (nee Wilhelm) died surrounded by love on July 11, 2018, after a long journey with sarcoma cancer. She was a courageous young woman who accepted her fate with spirit and amazing grace.

Born on Dec. 31, 1964, Jill grew up in Southern California, enjoying an active childhood that included ice skating, gymnastics and sailing with her family.

After high school, Jill moved with her parents to Arizona, graduating from NAU in June 1988 with a Bachelor’s Degree in General Studies.

In 1998, she moved to Prescott to accept a position at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University. She later worked for both Yavapai and Prescott Colleges before resigning to assist her husband, Tom Carter, with their construction business.

Jill was a loving wife and a devoted step-mom to sons, Christian and Andrew.

Jill is survived by her husband and sons; her parents, Dottie and Don Monroe and her sister, Dawn Wilhelm, all of La Conner, Washington. After cremation, a family memorial was held to celebrate her life.

A passionate advocate for preserving our beautiful planet, Jill loved animals and nature. She found joy in feeding birds, watching animals play, hiking, and canoeing at Goldwater Lake.

Anyone wishing to honor Jill’s life may do so by making a donation to the Nature Conservancy or to the Kindred Hospice Foundation.

Her family thanks the compassionate staff at Kindred Hospice and Jill’s wonderful neighbors for their love and kindness.
