Kudos Galore to The Daily Courier for publishing the eye-popping article headlined “Lobbyist: Arizona education is better than you think” (Jan 23).
I had to read it twice to realize that the “lobbyist” was full of hot air, had nothing to report, had no case and was merely collecting a paycheck from the strategically named “Arizona Education Project” club. A six-figure purchase of television ads is planned to tell the world about educational ‘successes’ in the state since Ducey took office. You have to wonder who would dump six figures into a campaign to tell the citizens of Arizona that their kids are “leading the nation” in math, science and English improvements and still be at the bottom of the national heap.
Well, look no further than The Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Arizona Lodging and Tourism Association and perennial favorite; Pinnacle West Capital Corp, also known as APS.
The question is, “What’s in it for them” to fluff up a neglected, financially starved education system at the expense of a generation of kids? It’s an unconscionable effort given that in our fair state many, many teachers can’t even afford a home in their own districts. Only ignorance and apathy will allow the Arizona Education Project to slither its way to fruition. Lobbyists must really have no shame.
