We can understand Andy Kollmer’s concern over the limits of living on Social Security alone, but take exception to the idea of not paying for schools if we “aren’t using them.”
We both graduated from public schools whose operating and capital expenses were covered by taxes often paid by people whose children were out of the school system, or who never had children.
We too are beyond the age where we have children in school but believe we have the same obligation to support public schools as did those folks who provided a good education for us.
We believe any “savings” to us might be more than taken by the costs resulting from no educational opportunities, such as crime and imprisonment were we to renege on our responsibility.
