I am very disappointed that Citi Bus had to close down its service this past week. This is especially true for the people in Prescott who rely on this service. Steve Silvernail and I are friends and business associates in a very expensive business. After Yavapai Regional Transit started our bus service in the Prescott and Chino Valley area, Steve and I met and discussed how we could work both our bus companies together, to provide a better bus service for the public. We agreed on free transfers from one bus service to the other, which would expand the places people could go at no cost to them. We both felt that this would be a good starting point.
Yavapai Regional Transit, Just like Citi Bus, struggles with a lack of monetary support and help from the City government. Unfortunately, the big losers are the folks that regularly use the bus service including those who don’t have, or cannot afford, any other means of transportation, which includes the elderly, disabled and low income.
Because Yavapai Regional Transit is on a very strict Federal “Rural” Grant, we will be unable to serve Citi Bus’s old routes.
Thank you Steve for providing Citi Bus to the folks in Prescott for all these years.
