A delegation of U.S. antinuclear activists, including Dennis DuVall of Prescott, joined an international demonstration July 12-18 to remove U.S. nuclear weapons from Büchel AFT in Germany. The U.S. delegation is part of a 50-group coalition of German peace organizations called, “Büchel is Everywhere: Nuclear Weapons-Free Now!”
The United States is the only country in the world that arms other countries with its nuclear bombs, while the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) explicitly prohibits nuclear weapons from being transferred to or accepted from other countries.
“The United States is obligated by the NPT to enter into ‘good faith negotiations’ to eliminate its nuclear arsenal,” DuVall explained, “but at the same time is planning to make 480 new hydrogen bombs to replace 150 now deployed across Europe.”
