The public is welcome to attend an upcoming candlelight vigil to honor the many lives lost to drug-related deaths.
It will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, at A.C. Williams Granite Creek Park, 554 6th St., in Prescott.
Harm reduction organizations Sonoran Prevention Works and Preskitt Needle Exchange are co-sponsoring the event to provide a space for the community to take some time to mourn and honor lost loved ones.
“We’ve had a lot of death in the past few years in Prescott — especially most recently — due to drug overdoses,” said Turiya Coll, Northern Arizona Overdose Prevention Coordinator at Sonoran Prevention Works. “We really want to grieve as a community. Just take a breath; take a pause.”
The vigil will include an open mic for anyone to share poetry, music and words, as well as candles and pieces of paper to write names and/or prayers on, according to a news release.
Event organizers will be collecting donations of jackets, blankets and socks to be distributed to unsheltered folks during the event.
Naloxone kits to prevent opioid overdoses will also be available for free.
