The Elks Theatre and Performing Arts Center is set to feature a lot of original music Saturday from Walt Richardson and Friends, Blaine Long and Rosas del Rey and The CheekTones Trio.
The show brings in some of the best original artists in Arizona, said Drew Hall of Rosas del Rey and the CheekTones. In fact, Richardson has been performing for about 30 or 40 years, Hall added. He’s in the Arizona Music Hall of Fame and is a featured performer on Mill Avenue’s Walk of Fame.
“He definitely has a following,” Hall said, calling him a “state treasure.”
Richardson will be joined by Marcus Weeden on bass, Hall on guitar and Gigi Gonaway on drums. Gonaway has been a drummer for many famous artists such as Mariah Carey, Steve Winwood, Aretha Franklin and Whitney Houston.
Additionally, Blaine Long was a featured performer on Season 11 of “The Voice” and was recently voted “Best Vocalist” by The New Times, Hall said. Rosas del Rey is made up of Weeden, Hal and David Libman.
The CheekTones Trio – Don Cheek, Gary Ukura and Hall – open the show and bring local favorites into the mix, Hall said.
It all starts at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11. Tickets are $18 with one $22 ticket seat left and can be purchased online at www.prescottelkstheater.com, by calling 928-777-1370 or at the door one hour prior to the performance.
As a night focused on vocal harmony and acoustic tracks, it’s going to be a really cool thing, Hall said.
“We never do this all in one night. This is kind of the big night of the year,” he said. “It’s a chance to see original artists playing the songs they wrote.”
Moreover, the Elks Theatre and Performing Arts Center, 117 E. Gurley St., is a really nice setting for a show that has a multi-generational draw, Hall said.
