Prescott’s golf team pulled away in the final round of the two-day Bradshaw Mountain Invitational on Saturday, cruising to victory in the eight-team tournament at Prescott Golf & Country Club near Dewey.
The Badgers posted a +72 total score for first place, outdistancing runner-up Mingus Union by 29 strokes (+101).
For Prescott, Joey Christopherson placed third individually, firing a +10 on 27 holes. Junior Payton Peterson finished fourth with a +16. The Top 6 golfers medaled.
“Going in, we had played everybody except Coconino and Flagstaff,” Prescott coach Tony Dalton. “We had won our two previous matches, so we were pretty confident.”
Page junior Donavon Buckley won the tournament’s individual championship, firing a +9 total. Flagstaff junior Jake Davison also shot a +9, but finished second.
Rounding out the Top 10 were Centennial sophomore Riley Brown (fifth, +16), Flagstaff freshman Joseph Del Giorgio (sixth, +18), Mingus Union sophomore Justin Tanner (seventh, +20), Estrella Foothills sophomore Ryan Vanderhei (eighth, +21), Prescott’s Brance Christopherson (ninth, +23) and Page junior Jonah Larson (10th, +25).
Host Bradshaw Mountain placed sixth overall as a team with a +137 total score. Flagstaff (third, +102), Estrella Foothills (fourth, +118) and Centennial (fifth, +132) rounded out the Top 5 teams.
The Badgers will turn right around and play host to Kingman and Mingus Union at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5, at Antelope Hills Golf Course in Prescott. Bradshaw Mountain is scheduled to visit Anthem Prep at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12.
