Dorvin Jay Jones

Beloved father, brother, grandpa, uncle, and friend, Dorvin Jay Jones, 67, of Prescott, Arizona, was called home to his Lord on Oct. 12, 2017. One of eight children, Dorvin was born March 17, 1950, in Goshen, Indiana, to Jake and Gladys (Cross) Jones. The family moved to Sunnyslope, Arizona, in 1960, before settling in Prescott in 1966. Through the late ’60s and ’70s, Dorvin worked at Western Auto, as a driver for E.Z. TransMix, CTI, and the school system, and eventually started his own business, Granite Mountain Materials in 1982, which still blesses the family today.

With humble beginnings and an eighth-grade education, Dorvin was a self-taught man with an inexhaustible work ethic. He was a devoted Christ-follower who walked in the Spirit every day, making his life his ministry. Dorvin lived to support and encourage the best in others, and touched countless lives through his earnest mentoring, generous spirit, and open heart.

His joyful presence, wise guidance, and unconditional love will be dearly missed.

Dorvin is survived by his beloved children, Rachele Jones of Prescott, and Jeremy (Tess) Jones of Prescott; granddaughters, Ari Janelle and Charlotte Cate Jones of Prescott; mother, Gladys Jones of Prescott; sisters, Sharon (Mitch) Garland of Mesa, Eugina (Dave) Suffriti of Pine, and Coralie Jones of Prescott; brothers, Devon (Jan) Jones of Minnesota, and David (Lana) Jones of Prescott; former wife, Michele Jones of Prescott; and many treasured nieces, nephews, surrogate children, and dear lifelong friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jake; brother, Duane; and sister, Regina Williams.

A memorial service will be held in his memory Saturday, Nov. 4, at 10 a.m. at Prescott Christian Church, 501 S. Senator Highway, Prescott, AZ 86303. Hampton Funeral assisted with the arrangements.
