Roadwork in Brief: Marina, utilities, Dexter, roundabout

South Marina Street Pavement and Utility Upgrade Project

The City of Prescott and its contractor, Fann Contracting, Inc., are currently working on a road and utility upgrade project along South Marina Street. The project limits include South Marina Street between East Gurley Street and East Goodwin Street. Improvements include removing and replacing the deteriorated roadway with new asphalt pavement, water and sewer upgrades, and streetscaping – including new sidewalk, curb and gutter, landscape plantings, and installation of historic light fixtures.

Once complete, this project will upgrade utilities that serve the community, increase pedestrian access and safety, and provide a smoother, quieter ride for downtown road users. The project is scheduled for completion in fall 2017.  

CONCRETE WORK CONTINUES – Installation of new sidewalks, and curb and gutter on the westside of South Marina Street will continue throughout the week. In addition to this work, crews will begin pouring concrete pavement at the Union Street intersection. Road grading operations will continue in preparation for new asphalt pavement along South Marina Street from East Goodwin Street to East Gurley Street.

Please be aware of the following impacts – Monday through Friday, Oct. 16-20, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. South Marina Street is closed to through traffic from East Goodwin Street to East Gurley Street; however, personnel will accommodate access for local businesses and residents. Please remain alert for temporary sidewalk closures while work is underway.

Zone 12 Water Pump Station Project

The City of Prescott and Schofield Civil Construction, LLC, are currently working on a utility upgrade project, which includes construction of a new pump station for water utility services at the southwest corner of Pioneer Parkway and Willow Creek Road. Drainage improvements are also included as part of the utility upgrade project. This work is scheduled for completion in winter 2018.

Once installed, the new pump station will give the city’s Water Operations Department the ability to divert water throughout multiple zones, ultimately improving system reliability for all users. Note, no water service interruptions are anticipated as part of this utility upgrade project.

ZONE 12 WATER PUMP STATION PROJECT MOVES FORWARD – Crews will continue working on valve vault extensions for the new Zone 12 Water Pump Station. Work will occur at the southwest corner of Pioneer Parkway and Willow Creek Road over the next two weeks.  

Please be aware of the following impacts – Monday through Thursday, Oct. 16-26, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Large trucks and heavy equipment will be accessing the project site at the corner of North Honeysuckle Road and East Morning Glory Lane. 

Dexter Neighborhood Road and Utility Upgrade Project

The City of Prescott and its contractor, Capital Improvements, LLC, are currently working on a road and utility upgrade project along select streets in the Dexter Neighborhood. The project consists of replacing undersized water and sewer main lines, road improvements, and installing new water service connections for residents. In addition, curb and gutter, sidewalk, and driveway replacements will be performed as needed.

This project is part of an ongoing program to replace deteriorated and undersized main lines within the city utility system. Once complete, these upgrades will increase service reliability and main line capacity for the Dexter Neighborhood and surrounding areas. Project completion is scheduled for spring 2018.

WATER MAIN INSTALLATION TO CONTINUE – Installation of new water main along Bird Street, from West Hillside Avenue to just north of West Merritt Avenue, will continue throughout the week.

Please be aware of the following impacts – Monday through Friday, Oct. 16-20, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Bird Street is closed to through traffic from West Hillside Avenue to just north of West Merritt Avenue; however, personnel will accommodate access for local businesses and residents. 

WORK TO BEGIN ON RUTH STREET – Crews will begin saw cutting the roadway in preparation for new water main installation along Ruth Street, from West Hillside Avenue to Whipple Street.

Please be aware of the following impacts – Monday through Friday, Oct. 16-20, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Ruth Street is closed to through traffic from West Hillside Avenue to Whipple Street; however, personnel will accommodate access for local businesses and residents.

Sundog Wastewater Treatment Plant Project

The City of Prescott and Fann Contracting, Inc., are currently working on a utility upgrade project at the Sundog Wastewater Treatment Plant. The project includes construction of a wastewater lift station and installation of a new sewer main line. Once complete, the lift station will force wastewater through the main line to a junction structure located north of the Willow Lake Road Roundabout at East Lillian Lane and Highway 89 (northwest corner).

This utility upgrade is the first of several phases to centralize wastewater collection and treatment throughout the municipal system. Once complete, the city’s wastewater utility system will be able to direct all sewage to the expanded Airport Water Reclamation Facility. This phase is scheduled for completion in winter 2018.

PAVING OPERATIONS COMPLETE – Crews have completed asphalt paving operations along Highway 89 from Prescott Lakes Parkway to East Lillian Lane. With this work complete, minor cleanup activities will be performed along the project corridor throughout the week.

Please be aware of the following impacts – Monday through Saturday, Oct. 16-21, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. One lane of traffic will remain open in both directions at all times. Motorists are asked to please be aware of lane restrictions, reduced speeds, flaggers, and heavy equipment accessing the work zone.

JUNCTION STRUCTURE INSTALLATION TO BEGIN – Crews will begin installing the new junction structure located north of the Willow Lake Road Roundabout at East Lillian Lane and Highway 89 (northwest corner).

Motorists are asked to please be aware of lane restrictions, reduced speeds, flaggers, and heavy equipment accessing the work zone. 

89 Widening and Roundabout Project

The City of Prescott and their contractor, Asphalt Paving & Supply, Inc., are working on a road and utility upgrade project along Highway 89. The project limits include 89 between the 89A/Pioneer Parkway interchange and Granite Dells. Improvements include the widening of 89, water and sewer utility upgrades, removing and replacing the existing asphaltic concrete, and construction of a new roundabout near the Phippen Museum. The project also includes a new parking area for access to the city’s Constellation Trail System.

Once complete, this project will increase traffic flow by widening the existing two-lane roadway to four lanes, enhance road user safety, and upgrade utilities that serve the Prescott community. The project is scheduled for completion in spring 2018.

89 WIDENING TO CONTINUE - Road widening operations will continue throughout the week as crews continue laying base course material and grading the roadway. Work will occur along 89 between the 89A/Pioneer Parkway interchange and Granite Dells.

CONSTELLATION TRAILHEAD PARKING LOT WORK MOVES FORWARD – Crews will begin installing concrete curb and gutter for the new Constellation Trailhead parking lot throughout the week.

Please be aware of the following impacts – Monday through Saturday, Oct. 16-21, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Parking and access for the Constellation Trailhead remains unchanged at this time. Trail users are asked to respect the work zone and take precaution when hiking near construction personnel and equipment.
