The Yavapai College men’s soccer team defeated ACCAC foe South Mountain Community College 14-0 on Oct. 7, tying the all-time mark for goals scored at a home match in school history. The match took place at Ken Lindley Field in Prescott, site of the first home match in Roughrider history back in 1989. The last time Yavapai scored 14 goals in a match was against ACCAC rival Phoenix College in 2005. The Roughriders (13-2-3, 11-2-3 ACCAC) are scheduled to face Gateway Community College at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, in Phoenix.
Glassford Hill 5K cancelled due to lack of participation
The Prescott Valley Parks and Recreation Department announced Tuesday, Oct. 10, that it has cancelled the annual Glassford Hill 5K “For The Hill Of It” due to limited participation at registration. The event, originally scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 14, is expected to be rescheduled for the summer or fall of 2018.
Goshindo Games comes to Yavapai College Nov. 18
The United States Association of Martial Artists is hosting a two-star event Saturday, Nov. 18, on the campus of Yavapai College in Prescott. Yavapai’s gymnasium will host several styles of fighting, including Kumite, Kobudo, Kata and Chanbara disciplines. Attendees are asked to pay $40 for two events and $10 for each additional event. Spectators are $5 and ages 5 and under are free. Registration begins at 8 a.m. with the competition beginning at 9 a.m. Yavapai College is located at 1100 E. Sheldon St. in Prescott. Sons of the American Legion Golf Tournament Oct. 14 at Quailwood Greens
The second annual Sons of the American Legion Golf Tournament to benefit local veterans’ charities will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, at Quailwood Greens in Dewey. Sign-in starts at 8 a.m. The tournament will be a two-person scramble with modified Callaway scoring. Registration is $50 per person, with a limit of 36 teams. There will be a chance to win a vehicle valued at $8,000, a big screen TV, Callaway golf clubs and airfare for two, sponsored by Downtown Motors’ Hole-in-One Contest.
Officers Down 5K Oct. 21 at Prescott Mile High M.S.
The Officers Down 5K, in conjunction with the Yavapai County Jeep Posse, is coming to Prescott starting at 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, at Mile High Middle School, 300 S. Granite St. By participating, you are helping honor America’s fallen law-enforcement heroes and celebrating those who put their lives on the line daily in our communities. The event includes a Kids’ Fun Run (9:30 a.m. to noon), 5K run/walk (10 a.m. to noon) and a 1-mile walk (10 a.m. to noon). Governor seeking to fill Game and Fish Commission position
The governor’s office is currently accepting applications for the Arizona Game and Fish Commission, which must be received or postmarked no later than 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26. Gov. Doug Ducey seeks members who are well informed and passionate about Arizona wildlife and its long-term conservation. In accordance with Arizona law, the Game and Fish Commission is required to be politically balanced and representative of all 15 counties, therefore the commission vacancy is available to registered residents of Yavapai County, Cochise, Coconino, Gila, Graham, Greenlee, La Paz, Mohave, Navajo, Pinal and Santa Cruz counties are eligible. Adult hockey returns to Prescott Valley Event Center
The Prescott Valley adult hockey league enters its 11th season at the Prescott Valley Event Center this fall, beginning with draft night Monday, Oct. 23, at 7 p.m. Promoting competitiveness, camaraderie and physical fitness, this is a non-checking, non-fighting league. There are eight regular season games and two playoff games. Game nights are Monday nights at 7 and 8:30 p.m. Those interested must be a member of USA Hockey and 18 years of age or older.
