Ace Hardware’s Retail Support Center in Prescott Valley is a monster of a facility.
Located on 45 acres, the building is 998,000 square feet, according to a news release. Its inventory is currently worth more than $40 million.
Being one of only 14 Ace centers in the country, it ships to 280 stores throughout the Southwest.
The fleet in Prescott Valley consists of 85 trailers and 29 tractors. They drive 2.6 million miles each year.
On Saturday, Sept. 30, the center’s employees and their families celebrated the facility’s 25th anniversary with tours, games, food and prizes.
Wade Dunshee is one of those employees. He works within the depths of the facility as a Material Handler, moving inventory around with lift machines and making sure everything is stored properly.
A former construction worker, he started working at Ace in Prescott Valley seven years ago when the economy was still very sluggish from the Great Recession.
“It’s been steady work,” Dunshee said about his current job. “Construction’s always about you’re either making a lot of money or you’re not doing anything. Since I’ve been here, I’ve worked every day. There’s never been a day where they said ‘oh, sorry, we don’t have any work for you.’”
Overall, 225 employees work at the facility.
