Letter: About those tax cuts

Editor:

Tax cuts? Really? Maybe if you’re a millionaire or billionaire, but not if you’re an average person. Most of us will actually get an increase. Nope, these tax cuts are for the wealthy, a promised gift to those corporations, bankers and rich people who paid for the politicians’ campaigns.

The GOP says these cuts will create jobs. Seriously? Did the Reagan tax cuts create jobs? No. Did Bush’s big tax cuts do it? Not at all. But both increased the deficit by trillions. So will this one. And how will the GOP pay the deficit down? By getting rid of costs, of course -- like Obamacare, like Medicaid and Medicare. And, oh yes, Social Security. They’ve been wanting to get rid of that for years.

They’re already dumping the EPA. Who cares if the air and water are contaminated? And the FDA. Doesn’t matter if people get salmonella from their veggies or drugs that make them sick. They’ll defund education, welfare. Anything the rich don’t need.

Oh, and did you know this plan allows tax exempt churches to put money into political campaigns? So now big money groups can send donations for their candidates through the local religious institutions and not be taxed. Forget separation of church and state.

And how will all those corporations and rich people spend their tax cuts? By buying more stocks in their own companies, not on jobs and wages. Tax cuts? You’ve got to be asleep not to see what the GOP in Congress is doing. Wake up, folks. This is really happening.
