I am a big library user, but it was disappointing to hear that the library will re-open on Sundays, at a cost of $42,643 per year. It’s fiscally irresponsible.
The point is not whether the library should be open on Sunday. The point is that hours were reduced because reducing services and headcount to pay down the PSPRS debt was a priority. Now with the passage of PSPRS sales tax, open the floodgates, keep spending, and 10 years from now the city will need more money.
Now that we can take 10 years to pay down the debt, budgetary discipline is gone. Hiring freeze? Gone. Priorities? Everything. In 10 years just renew the sales tax. Let the spending begin!
