On Thursday, May 18, the Friends of the Family Enrichment Center (FOFEC) held their annual open house event at the Del E. Webb Family Enrichment Center (FEC), a high-quality child care center and preschool on Yavapai College Campus.
FOFEC is a group of people dedicated to raising funds to support the FEC. Along with their annual Framing the Future luncheon fundraiser, the group also partners with the Prescott Sunrise Lions Foundation to raise money through participation in the Arizona State Charitable Tax Credit. Through the tax credit, individuals can designate a portion of their Arizona state taxes (up to $400 per individual or $800 per married couple) to the Prescott Sunrise Lions Foundation, and designate the FEC as the recipient of these funds. At the conclusion of tax season, the Prescott Sunrise Lions Foundation sends a check to the FEC for the sum of the funds received.
This year, that check was over $30,000. These funds will be spent on child care scholarships for children of lower-income families to attend the FEC.
The FEC has the highest possible quality rating from First Things First, Arizona’s early childhood state agency. Since 90 percent of a child’s brain develops by age 5, high-quality early childhood education is strongly linked to a child’s success in school, career, and life. The FEC, which is celebrating its 10th year, is grateful for the support it receives from local organizations and individuals, including the Yavapai College Foundation, the Prescott Sunrise Lions Foundation, the American Association of University Women, First Things First, and the many people who designate the FEC as the recipient of their Arizona Charitable Tax Credit dollars.
