For the fourth consecutive year, SpringHill Suites by Marriott in Prescott has raised money for local schools through a national program, the SaveArt! Initiative.

SpringHill Suites partnered with Taylor Hicks Elementary School in the fall of 2016 along with cooperation from the brand’s partner, Fresh Artists, a nonprofit organization that supports art education in under-funded local public schools across the country, according to a news release from SpringHill.

Overall, SpringHill Suites associates, hotel guests and local residents contributed $1,000 in its fundraising effort, which allowed for the purchase of a variety of new art supplies for the school.

“SpringHill Suites by Marriott has a passion for the arts and recognizes the importance of art education as a tool for character development and academic improvement in young students,” the news release stated, adding, “As a nationwide program for all SpringHill Suites in the country, the mission is to provide high-quality art supplies to support art programs in under-resourced local public schools.”

Christine Dean, art teacher at Taylor Hicks said, “We are so grateful to the Marriott SpringHill Suites and their patrons for their generous donation of art materials. Due to their kindness and support, our budding young artists will have new art supplies for the upcoming school year.”

In its first two years, the SaveArt! program contributed art supplies to Miller Valley Elementary School, however after the closure of Miller Valley in 2015, the program needed to find a new partner school. The program was moved to Taylor Hicks in the fall of 2015.

“Fine arts is non-negotiable in Prescott, Arizona,” said Joe Howard, PUSD Superintendent. “Time and time again, over the past few years, our community has stood up to fight for the arts.  It is clear that we believe in well-rounded, artistic children in our fine town.”
