Obituary: Arthur J. Filippino

Arthur J. Filippino, 87, of Prescott, Arizona, passed away Friday, June 23, 2017, in Prescott.

He was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He graduated from the University of PA with a major in Accounting. After a year in the U.S. Navy, he worked for Gulf Oil Company in Maricabo, Venezuela. Four years later he returned to Philadelphia, working for the U.S. Navy. On a holiday vacation he met his wife Irene. They married in 1963 and moved to England where he continued with the U.S. Navy for 12 years. In 1975 the family, now with two sons, returned to live in Alexandria, Virginia, where Arthur served as Comptroller for the Naval Data Automation Command and was a member of the Senior Executive Service. Retiring in 1986, Arthur became a consultant in the U.S. House of Representatives. Retiring once again, Irene and Arthur moved to Prescott in 1990 and was active with the Interfaith Coalition, establishment of a homeless shelter, now known as Project Aware, a Master Gardner and Noon Lion.

Arthur is survived by his wife of 54 years, Irene; sons, Eric of Bend, Oregon, and Adam (Nancy) of White Salmon, Washington; granddaughters, Hannah, Sophia, and Bailey; sister-in-law, Evelyn Filippino; brother-in-law, Dennis (Maureen) Grillo; and a number of nephews and nieces.

There will be a Memorial Service at 11 a.m. Tuesday July 25, 2017, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 150 Fleury Ave., in Prescott. A reception to follow. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of choice. Services entrusted to Heritage Memory Mortuary.
