The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 6, Prescott, supports our local veterans’ community through two programs in their Christmas Charities projects. These programs were organized by Donna Martin and Corky Hintz.

This year the Auxiliary selected two local families to receive food, clothing, toys and gift cards to Walmart to enhance their enjoyment of the spirit of the Christmas season. One family unit was a veteran and three children, and the second family unit was two veterans with a child. As an extra special gift, one of the veterans and all of the boys were given bicycles. The Auxiliary appreciates the support it received from US Vets in locating these appropriate and deserving families.

A second tradition at the Auxiliary is the Veterans’ Tree. Names of veterans from local care facilities and American Legion Post members who are shut in are posted on the tree. Auxiliary and Post members select a name and purchase a recommended gift. The gifts are personally delivered by Corky Hintz and Mary Ann Cole to add some Christmas cheer to these veterans’ lives.
