We in Arizona cannot ignore the threats posed by the proposed Senate tax plan to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) – nearly 130,000 in Arizona alone and approximately 5 million nationwide. Congress is fast-tracking legislation that reduces federal revenues and increases the federal deficit, which sets the table for Congress to move next to cut vital programs as a means of paying for the tax cuts. This could mean drastic changes on the menu to a variety of programs that support people with I/DD, including Medicaid.
Senators McCain and Flake can stop this by opposing the current tax plan. A vote against this tax bill is a vote for constituents with disabilities in our state. Irresponsible fiscal policy hurts people with disabilities, and we can’t sit idly by as our Senators consider passage of such a dangerous bill.
