PRESCOTT – Five Yavapai College soccer players were named to the 2016 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-Region I Team, the Roughriders’ athletic department announced on Monday, Oct. 24.

Sophomore defenders Jacob Malach of Boise, Idaho, and Juan Ramirez of Aloha, Oregon, joined freshman forward Carlo Quesada of Las Vegas on the first team.

Second-team selections included two freshmen from Phoenix in midfielder John Scearce and defender John Kanner.

In addition, Roughriders coach Mike Pantalione (592-52-27 overall record, 28th year) was named NJCAA Region I Coach of the Year for the 18th time.

Yavapai College soccer captured its 26th conference title in 2016 with an overall regular-season record of 18-2-0.

Postseason play begins for the NJCAA No. 5-ranked Roughriders with a region semifinal at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, at Ken Lindley Field in Prescott. Yavapai will host Phoenix, a 6-0 winner over Chandler-Gilbert in the quarterfinals on Tuesday night.

Admission into the regional in Prescott costs $5 per adult and $3 per student. Children ages 6 and younger get in free. Passes will not be honored in the playoffs.
