Most people agree flowers can brighten up a bad day.
On Wednesday, Oct. 19, the folks at Allan’s Flowers & More will hit the streets of downtown Prescott to give away bouquets as part of the Society of American Florists’ “Petal It Forward” campaign.
“We see the positive impact day in and day out when we make our flower deliveries,” said Rakini Chinery of Allan’s Flowers. “People love to get flowers ‘just because,’ so we wanted to create random smiles today, and give people a chance to do the same for someone else.”
That’s because the Petal It Forward team will give lucky Prescottonians not one but two bouquets – one to keep and one to share with a loved one, coworker or even a stranger.
According to a survey of 2,500 U.S. residents recently conducted by the SAF, flowers have an immediate impact on happiness and a long-term effect on moods. A full 88 percent of Americans said giving flowers makes them happy while 80 percent reported receiving flowers did the same. The survey also found that merely being around flowers improves mood, according to 76 percent of respondents.
“The impact of giving or receiving flowers is powerful and memorable,” Chinery said. “It can turn an ordinary day into an extraordinary one.”
Starting at 7 a.m., Chinery and Allan’s Petal It Forward team will give away more than 500 bouquets to people around courthouse plaza in downtown Prescott. They will continue until they’ve handed out all the bouquets.
Recipients are asked to spread the happiness by gifting their extra bouquet and sharing their happiness on social media using the hashtag #petalitforward. The florist also can be found on Twitter @AllansFlowers.
Allan’s Flowers & More has been part of the Prescott area since 1914.
