PRESCOTT – The public will have an opportunity to view the newly renovated Elks Performing Arts Center next month during an iconic Prescott music event.
Steven Kartstein, marketing and program manager for the Prescott Elks Performing Arts Center, announced this week that an informal open house will take place during this year’s Acker Night in downtown Prescott.
“We will be open for visitors to come by and see the remodeled performing arts center,” Kartstein said, noting that the open house is scheduled to take place from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9, at the Elks Theatre, 117 E. Gurley St.
The most recent renovation has focused on the second and third floors of the 111-year-old building, which previously served as attorneys’ offices. That space has been converted into state-of-the-art dance studios, music isolation rooms, a recording studio, and a large open space on the third floor, complete with a catering kitchen.
The recently completed project is just the latest in a number of phases of restoration that has been under way at the Elks since about 2009-2010, when the City of Prescott oversaw a $1.75 million restoration of the theater space. That project was paid for largely through private donations and fundraising, and was not a part of the recently completed renovation.
