Sports Briefly: Local golf results


THE ANTELOPE HILLS LADIES GOLF ASSOCIATION recently completed its 2016 Presidents Cup Match Play Tournament in Prescott with the winners being: Sue Gibson, 1st place; Greta Burbridge, 2nd place; Liz Simoneu and Jackie Schiller, 3rd place; Teddi Lewis, Pat Fleckenstein, Pam Burns and Dorothy Swehla, 4th place. In the consolation bracket, the winners were: Cathy Schiller, 1st place; Joan Mendenhall, runner-up.

PLAY OF THE DAY FOR THE ANTELOPE HILLS LADIES GOLF ASSOCIATION was ‘five longest and four shortest’ on July 21 in Prescott. First flight winners were: Greta Burbridge (34.5 score), first place; Lynn Kolstad (35.6), second; and Karen Hughes and Liz Simoeau, tie for third. In the second flight, Joyce Bourgeois was first (34); Jean Merton (34.5) was second; and Pat Stratman (35) was third. In the third flight, Sue Gibson shot a 36.5 for first place; Jeanne Dardis (38) was second; and there was a tie for third between Kathy Wherley and Diane Flannery (40). The fourth flight was won by newcomer Heidi Marshall (31). Second place went to Nancy Clark (32) and third place went to Sue Casey (38.5). In the closest to the pin competition, Burbridge won on hole No. 8 and Claudia Miner won on No. 11. Low gross of the week went to Burbridge, who shot an 86, and low net went to Joyce Bourgeois (67).


THE ANNUAL LOCAL NFL PUNT, PASS AND KICK competition will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, at Mountain Valley Park’s Pavilion Field in Prescott Valley. Boys and girls ages 6-15 are invited to participate in the free event. Registration begins on-site at 9:30 a.m. Winners advance from the local level to a regional competition. REGISTRATION FOR PRESCOTT VALLEY’S 2016 FALL SOFTBALL LEAGUE will run through July 29, with late registration slated for July 30-Aug. 5. Co-ed league games will be played on Mondays and Men’s league games will be played on Fridays. Game times are at 6:30, 7:30 and 8:30 p.m. Men’s league starts Friday, Aug. 19, and the Co-ed league starts Monday, Aug. 22.

All games will be played at the Mountain Valley Park 4-plex off Robert Road and Nace Lane. Cost per team for softball is $270, with a guarantee of seven regular-season games and one tournament game. Free agents should call the Prescott Valley Parks and Rec office at 928-759-3093 to be put on an availability list for the season. Applications are also being taken for umpires. PRESCOTT VALLEY VIPERS FOOTBALL & CHEER will be conducting a car show fundraiser sponsored by MP Products from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 13, at the PV Entertainment District off Park Avenue. Custom, classic and/or new and used vehicles are welcome, as are motorcycles. There is a $25 fee to showcase your car/truck, a $15 fee to showcase your motorcycle, and a $25 fee for a sale corral. Check-in runs from 8-9:30 a.m. Aug. 13. Concessions will be available and include $5 hamburger or hot dog meals.

However, all vehicle and motorcycle owners who register with the Vipers will receive a free meal. Raffles and a 50/50 drawing are also featured. The Vipers is a new club and nonprofit organization that’s asking for help with the car show to generate money for its operations.

Club organizers say they will use all funds collected to pay for game fields, practice fields, portable lights for practices, first-aid kits, football equipment and any other necessities to keep their young players safe during the season.
