Letter: We need our nukes

Editor:

Nuclear weapons are a necessity for America to stay strong. They keep America safe and protected.

Without nuclear weapons, wars would be more common. They are a tool used to prevent war and find peaceful solutions. Nuclear weapons are essential for the safety of America.

Nuclear weapons are used as a deterrent. "Nuclear weapons are considered one of the best negotiation tools available in the international political circuit. Nobody wants to argue with someone who holds the power of complete destruction." (Juliet, 2011) Having nuclear weapons prevents war by threatening the enemy with complete destruction. The nations then find a peaceful solution instead of bloodshed.

Many people argue that nuclear weapons are a waste of money. "The United States will spend at least $179 billion over the nine fiscal years of 2010-2018 on its nuclear arsenal ..." (NTI, 2013) It is true that America spends billions of dollars on nuclear weapons, but is your life worth being in danger without the protection of nuclear weapons?

America has made a deal with Iran involving nuclear energy. Rep. Adam B. Schiff, a Democrat who supports the deal said, "The chief reservation I have about the agreement is the fact that in 15 years they (Iran) have a highly modern and internationally legitimized enrichment capability." (Gordon, 2015) Iran has the resources to build nuclear weapons, which is why American should be prepared with their own.

American must be the strongest nation on earth in order for there to be peace. Without nuclear weapons, America would be in danger of wars, threats, and terrorist attacks. Your precious life and your family's lives depend on the protection nuclear weapons give. Are you willing to put them at risk?
