Branch of Service: U.S. Air Force
Dates of Service: June 10, 1952-June 10, 1958 (four years active, two years Air National Guard)

Job: Maintenance crew chief on B-29 and B-50 bombers that flew weather missions every day (except when it was 50 below zero or colder). Note there was no wind chill. This was actual temperature.
Greatest Thrill: Flying in a B-29 - only one mission - over the North Pole and back! Flying time: 14 hours, 41 minutes - 13 hours over ice and snow.
One mission came back reeking of radioactivity from flying through the cloud banks of the results of an atomic bomb that Russia was testing in Siberia.
