Yavapai County sheriff's deputies are searching for a missing 69-year-old man whose car they found abandoned May 17, a YCSO spokesman said.
Edward Cox, of Las Vegas, was last seen driving a blue Buick Regal sedan north on Forest Road 24, north of Cave Creek, headed toward Bloody Basin Road on May 11, sheriff's spokesman Dwight D'Evelyn said, but the Sheriff's Office wasn't called until they were told about his abandoned car, found on Bloody Basin Road, about 6 miles west of the Verde River, with a flat tire.
D'Evelyn said there was no evidence of foul play.
For two days, YCSO searched by air and on the ground for Cox without success.
"Family members and Las Vegas law enforcement were contacted and asked to check last known addresses, including a hotel room identified from paperwork discovered in the car," D'Evelyn said. "Cox could not be found and his family had no idea why he would travel out of state."
Family members did say he'd had bouts with manic depression in the past and takes medications for that, but no one knows if he's carrying them.
D'Evelyn said Cox's cell phone has been off since May 10; his credit cards haven't been used recently; and he is apparently not in any hospital.
Cox is 5 feet 8 inches tall, about 185 pounds, and has grey hair and blue eyes.
Anyone who has seen or contacted Cox is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 928-771-3260.
