PRESCOTT - The second phase in a project to replace aging water and sewer lines in Prescott's Dexter neighborhood is set to begin next month.
The Prescott City Council approved a $2.2 million contract with Fann Contracting, Inc., on Tuesday, March 24, for the Lincoln Avenue water and sewer project.
A city memo notes that the project is the second in a three-phase effort to upgrade the small, undersized, and aging water mains.
"These mains are typically three inches or less in diameter, often constructed of galvanized steel and also a source of leaks," the memo stated.
The project also will include the replacement and/or rehabilitation of sewer mains, which will reduce maintenance costs, service calls, and overflows.
Among six bids, Fann submitted the low bid, at $2,169,427. The other bids ranged from $2,245,344 to $2,650,391.
The construction is scheduled to begin in April and be complete in September.
