Flagstaff man convicted in series of sex assaults

FLAGSTAFF - A Flagstaff man has been convicted in a series of sexual assaults that stirred fear throughout downtown Flagstaff last year.

The Arizona Daily Sun reports that a jury found 23-year-old Gregory Woody Jr. guilty on 11 counts involving sexual assault and abuse.

Woody was convicted of five counts of sexual assault, two counts of kidnapping, two counts of aggravated assault and one count of sexual abuse.

Authorities say Woody raped, beat and choked two women he met and that DNA linked him to the crimes, which happened six months apart.

The jury also found him guilty of aggravated assault of a third victim in a Flagstaff motel room but not of attempted sexual assault or kidnapping.

The assaults were first reported in January 2013.
