Native American Heritage Month was recently celebrated at Skyview School with local Gourd Dancers. Ray Golder of the Lakota tribe, Larry Kimmel of the Indians of Indiana tribe, and Alfonso Santillan Jr. representing the Huichol tribe gave lessons on how to Gourd Dance to 57 Skyview School students. Ray Golder told the story of the Kiowa Indians and the Red Wolf, which showed them how to dance and sing. Eagle feathers, gourd rattles, Indian artifacts, turtle shells, weasel bad dream chasers, and Gourd Dancer regalia were on display for students to see. The event was sponsored by the Prescott Intertribal Warrior Society Community Service Department.
