Chino Valley High's boys' soccer team remained unbeaten on the 2014 season Friday, improving to 13-0 after registering two wins at the Old Pueblo Tournament in Tucson.
The Cougars recorded two shutouts, defeating Show Low, 3-0, in the opener before downing St. Gregory, 5-0.
Geo Vedolla scored four goals on the day, including two apiece in each match, to lead Chino offensively. Arturo Gomez chimed in with a total of two goals.
Versus St. Gregory, Oscar Montes tallied a goal and an assist, and Ben Carrizoza added a goal.
With these victories, defending Division 4 state champion Chino Valley improved its overall record to an impressive 35-1-1 dating back to the start of last season.
Today, the Cougars will play two more games in Tucson's 90-degree heat. They'll compete in a state championship game rematch against rival Blue Ridge at 11 a.m., followed by a showdown against Snowflake at 3 p.m.
