Man's body found near railroad tracks identified

SELIGMAN - The body of a man found near railroad tracks west of Seligman Monday morning has been identified.

Randall A. Scott, 37, was an Amtrak passenger traveling from Hutchinson, Kansas, to Kingman, according to passenger records, sheriff's spokesman Dwight D'Evelyn said. His body was discovered along the BNSF tracks near Peach Springs early Monday morning by a passing train crew.

Amtrak passenger service shares the tracks with the BNSF Railway Company, a freight hauler.

D'Evelyn said, "It is unknown what caused Scott to exit the apparently moving Amtrak train" at about 1:30 a.m.

Monday as it went through the area.

YCSO detectives are working with the Amtrak Police Department in an effort to find witnesses and trace Scott's movements.

The detectives have also been in touch with Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department officials, who examined the train - a possible moving crime scene - when it arrived there at the end of the trip.

They will contact Scott's family to see whether the family can provide any background to explain what may have happened, D'Evelyn said.
