Theodore (Ted) McCord Hazlett

Theodore (Ted) McCord Hazlett, 85, was called home by his heavenly Father on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014, in Prescott, Ariz., surrounded by family.

Friends may attend a memorial service 11 a.m. Saturday, March 8, 2014, to take place at the Prescott United Methodist Church, 505 W. Gurley St., Prescott, Ariz.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Music Ministry of the PUMC or the Prescott Public Library.

Mr. Hazlett was born on Sept. 11, 1928, in Glenn Cove, N.Y., the son of the late Ray W. and E. Frances McCord Hazlett. He joined the U.S. Navy and then graduated from Houghton College, Houghton, N.Y. Ted also attended the Forestry College at the University of Washington.

In 1954, he started his teaching career, as a high school science teacher at Phelps Central School, New York, where he met and married Jean Wheadon in 1955. Most of his career was spent at Waterloo Central School, New York. The Hazletts retired to Prescott in 1992. Mr. Hazlett liked to swim, bike, camp, travel, sing with the church choir and spend time at libraries. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife, Jean E. Hazlett; children Dr. Brian T. Hazlett (Yvonne) and Kathryn Hazlett Cline (Roger); grandchildren Thea E. Cline and Alex D. Cline; two brothers, F. Ray Hazlett and Don P. Hazlett; and sister Carol J. Venuto. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister M. Jeanne Blowers; and brother Richard Hazlett.
