The Prescott High boys' swim team finished eighth out of 42 squads in the finals of the Division 2 Swimming State Championships Saturday at Skyline Aquatic Center in Mesa.
In the 200-yard medley relay, the Badgers' grouping of Grant Temple (backstroke), Ali Mahmoud (breaststroke), Jaxton Peterson (butterfly) and Billy Barlow (freestyle) medaled by placing fourth in 1 minute and 42.25 seconds.
Peterson, Barlow, Temple and Max Tipton also medaled in the 200 free relay, taking fourth with a school record-setting time of 1:31.64.
Individually, Temple medaled in the 100 fly by placing third in 51.17 seconds, and he was fifth in the 200 free in 1:46.40.
Badgers coach Brigid Bunch said she was proud of Temple, a senior who will go down as one of the best swimmers in the PHS program's history. Next year, Temple will swim for the Air Force Academy, she added.
"Grant did an excellent job," Bunch said. "He's an outstanding athlete, and we're going to miss him."
Peterson, a rising star for the Badgers, finished right behind Temple in the 100 fly and medaled by placing fourth in 52.72 seconds.
As for the Prescott girls, Toko Miller finished 11th in the 50 free in 25.94 seconds. She also took 13th in the 100 breast in 1:13.40.
"I'm really proud of how we did," Bunch said of her varsity team's performance at state. "It was a great season, and we represented Prescott quite well."
