YAVAPAI COUNTY - One person was killed and two were injured in a head-on collision Wednesday night on Iron Springs Road in a crash authorities suspect was caused by a drunk driver, a YCSO spokesman said.
The crash happened at about 8:20 p.m., just east of Skyline.
Witnesses told deputies that a Chevy Suburban, headed west on Iron Springs, crossed the centerline and struck an eastbound Ford F-150 pickup head-on, sheriff's spokesman Dwight D'Evelyn said, but investigators have not confirmed that account yet.
The Suburban was driven by David Crawford, 61, from Paulden, who was killed, D'Evelyn said. There were open containers in the SUV, and Crawford is suspected to have been intoxicated, D' Evelyn said. Phoenix Police assisted with a blood draw, he said.
Crawford's passenger, Anthony Westcott, 66, of Cottonwood, is in critical condition at Banner Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix, D' Evelyn said.
The driver of the pickup, Albert Bamsch, 61, of Prescott was transported in stable condition.
An accident reconstruction team and evidence technicians were working to pinpoint the cause, D'Evelyn said. They will also address the speed of the vehicles and whether seatbelts were in use.
