4-year-old boy accidentally shoots, kills dad in Prescott Valley

A 4-year-old boy accidentally shot and killed his father, Justin Stanfield Thomas of Phoenix, at a Prescott Valley home Friday.

According to Prescott Valley Police Department Sgt. Brandon Bonney, police responded to a "shots fired" call on Truwood Drive shortly after 12:30 p.m.

Thomas, 35, and his young son were visiting from Phoenix and were at a friend's Prescott Valley house.

Police say the boy found a gun in the home's living room and accidentally fired it and a bullet hit his father.

The man was transported to a local hospital, where he died.

The boy is in the custody of his mother.
