Yavapai County School Superintendent Tim Carter announced Thursday the appointment of Brian deGanahl to the Hillside Elementary School District Governing Board effective May 31, 2013 through Dec. 31, 2014.
This vacancy was due to the resignation of Shelley Blackmore who said she had "differences with the views of the majority of the Board and the regulations of the State that she is in disagreement with."
Carter interviewed deGanahl, the only candidate for the position, at Hillside School on May 28 and verified he met the statutory qualifications, then Carter discussed the deGanahl's qualifications individually with each of the sitting governing board members and the administration before making the appointment.
"Mr. deGanahl will represent the residents of the district well," Carter said. "He has volunteered for the school district in many capacities over the last several years and has a solid understanding of district and school operations."
Two of deGanahl's children graduated from Hillside School. He has been a resident of the district for 13 years, is married and the couple has three children. He received a bachelor of science in agri-business from the University of Wyoming in 1995, and he owns and operates the deGanahl Cattle Company.
