Obituary: Charles (Chuck) E. Sunderland

Chuck Sunderland passed away on Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, in Prescott Valley, Ariz. He was 68.

Chuck was the eldest son of Charles W. and Arleen H. Sunderland of Milton, N.D. Born Oct. 25, 1944, in Langdon, N.D., Chuck graduated high school in 1962 in Milton, received his associate's degree at NDSSF in Bottineau, N.D., and his bachelor of science at Mayville State University. Chuck married Karen M. Domres of Langdon, N.D., on March 2, 1966, and went on to teach grade school science in Edmore, N.D., and in Bowman, N.D., where they eventually settled. Chuck also was a U.S. Park Service park ranger during the summer school breaks in Medora, N.D.. Chuck and Karen later operated a Sears catalog store in Bowman, N.D., until 1988, when they relocated to Prescott Valley, Ariz. Chuck became well-known and well-liked in the Prescott Valley area as a very successful real estate broker. His love of golf, family, traveling, and entertaining (especially the annual Deuce of August celebration), as well as his community activities kept him very active throughout his life. Chuck was a member of the Milton Masonic Lodge #48 in Milton, N.D., a member of the Prescott Valley Elks Lodge #330 in Prescott Valley, Ariz., the Rotary Club, and various other organizations.

Chuck was preceded in death by his father, Charles W. Sunderland, in 1982, and his wife and best friend, Karen, after 40 wonderful years, in August 2006.

Chuck is survived by his son, Jamie L. Sunderland, daughter-in-law, Belinda, and his treasured granddaughter, Maren Corinna, of Unalaska, Alaska; his mother, Arleen H Sunderland, of Milton, N.D.; siblings, Gary Sunderland of Fenton, Mich.; Rebecca Sunderland Sloan of Green Valley, Ariz.; Madge Dows of Page, N.D.; Pearce Sunderland of Gulfport, Miss.; Steve Sunderland of Milton, N.D.; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013 , at 2:30 p.m., at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Prescott Valley, Ariz.
