PRESCOTT - Kicking off Friday, the second annual "Wonderschlautt" will feature a weekend of free family fun, centered on "all things mountain bike."
A news release from the Prescott Mountain Bike Alliance reports that the event will begin at 4 p.m. Friday with a ribbon-cutting at the Granite Creek Park pump track (554 N. Sixth St.).
Then, at 6 p.m. Friday, the Wonderschlautt will shift into high gear with the opening of the event hub at Park Plaza Liquor and Deli (402 W. Goodwin St.). Activities will continue at Park Plaza through 10 p.m., Saturday.
The Wonderschlautt will feature group rides for all levels, games, prizes, Rocky Mountain bike demos, a bike swap, a kids' skills ride, roller races, and the Sombrio portable pump track.
The Park Plaza Liquor and Deli will have food and beverages available, and the Prescott Eagles will host a beer garden.
The group rides will take mountain bikers to many Prescott trails - featuring everything from the "Peavine Family Cruise" to the "Wonderschlautt Epic," (a 37-mile loop with a 4,675-foot elevation gain). Local riders will lead the rides, which are scheduled from Friday night through Sunday morning.
A complete Wonderschlautt event schedule is available at www.wonderschlautt.com.
The website defines Wonderschlautt as "an event that celebrates the many aspects of mountain biking and cycling culture in general. The goal is to create a festival with this in mind and find a way to gather as many like-minded people as possible and have a great time in the cool Pines of Prescott, Arizona."
