Chavela McClure

Our mother, grandmother and dearest friend, Elizabeth (Chavela) McClure passed into eternal rest with her children at her side on Dec. 27, 2011, in Newport Beach, Calif. She was 93 years of age. Born Isabel Preciado in Duquesne, Ariz., on Feb. 13, 1918, to Francisco Preciado and Petranila Hurtado, Chavela lived for many years in Prescott, Ariz., and returned frequently to visit her aunts, Sarah, Margarita and Trinidad and many cousins whom she dearly loved.

She moved to California with her late husband Samuel McClure during the war years and remained in Salinas, San Jose, and then in Orange County, Calif., until her death.

She leaves her children, Samuel McClure Jr. (Tere), Helen Francis McClure and Elizabeth Ann Martinez (Ramon), and their families; her grandchildren Samuel III (Beth), Anthony (Helen), Richard and Patricia Susanne McClure, Kimberli Doty and James Doty (Lila); and great grandchildren Shaun and Lindsay McClure, Joseph and Jared Aizawa and James Ramon Doty.

Her sister, Carmen Torrez, was a long-time resident of Phoenix, Ariz., whose children, Ramon Torrez Jr., Daniel Torrez and Rachel Heffner and their families remember her, as well as all the members of the Barnes, Castro and Griego families descended from her aunts.

Chavela's greatest pleasure came from helping people. Everyone whose path she crossed was helped by her encouragement and advice. She listened and cared, and was a model of piety. "Surely she will dwell in the house of the Lord forever."

Interment will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 29, 2012, at Prescott National Cemetery in Prescott, Ariz., followed by a family gathering at Granite Creek Park in Prescott.
