The 20-acre Lookout Fire that started Tuesday morning in woodland and chaparral 10 miles south of Prescott was 90 percent contained by late Friday afternoon, said Prescott National Forest spokesperson Debbie Maneely.
"Sixty-five firefighters will continue to do mop-up and monitoring over the weekend," she said, adding PNF hoped to call the fire 100 percent contained by Monday.
"Mop-up" is defined as extinguishing or removing burning material near control lines, felling snags and trenching logs to prevent them from rolling.
The Lower Wolf Creek Campground will remain closed until Monday. Officials also cancelled a controlled-burn they had planned Wednesday through Friday at Lynx Lake. PNF officials have attributed the cause of the fire to lightning. For more information, call the Prescott National Forest Information Hotline at 777-5799 or the Bradshaw Ranger District at 443-8000.
