Paul Gilbert Converse

Paul Gilbert Converse, 82, passed away on June 17, 2011, in Prescott Valley, Ariz. He was born on Nov. 10, 1928, at the Del Rio Ranch in Chino Valley, Ariz., to George and Grace (Swiger) Converse.

Gil attended Prescott High School and was inducted into the Prescott High School Sports Hall of Fame. He worked for Arizona Public Service Co. for 39 years and retired in 1988. Gil was active in his community with volunteer work, he was a member of the Smoki People, and he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and just spending time with family and friends.

Gil spent his time here in the Prescott/Chino Valley area, working, serving and enjoying to the fullest all the benefits of this small-town community, its people and the splendor of the Southwest outdoors. Yavapai County and Arizona were made for men like Gil Converse. A special thanks to Dr. Fred Markham and staff for their outstanding care of our father.

Gil is survived by his two children, Judy (Ernie) Rojas and Ken (Kim) Converse; two grandchildren, Aaron (Pam) Overton and Ashley (Ben) Buchanan; five great-grandchildren; an older brother, Art Converse; and an older sister, Mary Hardin. Gil was preceded in death by his younger sister and brother-in-law, Jackie and Al Klimkie.

A memorial service for Gil will be 1 p.m. Saturday, June 25, 2011, at the Freeman Building at the Old Yavapai County Fairgrounds. The family suggests that donations in Gil's name be sent to Mrs. Starlene Trader at the Shiloh Adult Care, 5336 N. Long Rifle, Prescott Valley, AZ 86314.
